Gibtelecom Directory Enquiry Services
The Gibraltar Regulatory Authority (GRA) announced yesterday new directory enquiry numbers for Gibtelecom. The current directory numbers 195 and 196 for local and international directory enquiry services respectively will be changing as follows:
Local Directory Enquiries: 11811
International Directory Enquiries: 11888
The new numbers will come into effect on Monday 29 March 2010. There will be a period of parallel running until 30 September 2010 when customers will be able to dial both numbers, after which the existing numbers 195 and 196 would be withdrawn completely.
These changes follow the GRA’s decision to introduce new directory enquiry numbering arrangements using the 118 prefix as in other European countries. In pursuance of this objective, the GRA invited applications at the end of last year from all operators for the allocation of new directory enquiry numbers within the five digit 118XX format. Gibtelecom understands it was the only applicant.
Commenting on the change, Mr Xavi Bado, Gibtelecom Technical Director said “works are already underway to update Gibtelecom’s switching and transmission equipment in order to handle the number changes with minimal interruption to customers. Gibtelecom will also be embarking on a communications plan to assist and inform customers on the new directory numbers, and making further announcements on the change in the coming weeks”.
Gibtelecom’s directory enquiry services are available 24 hours a day, all year round. Call charges for directory enquiries will remain unchanged.
