Frequently Asked Questions

You're likely to find the answer to your query in our extensive list of Frequently Asked Questions.

First you will need to decide whether you want to use IMAP or POP3.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)

IMAP is not an email program in itself. Just like POP, it is a protocol by which you can read email. IMAP allows you to view your email from more than one place. E.g. from your desktop computer at work and from your laptop at home and from abroad and from your mobile device - multiple locations.

To use IMAP effectively, you need to make sure that each program on each computer that you use to view your Gibtelecom email account is set up to use IMAP.

Also take care to watch your quota!

With IMAP all of your email is stored on the Gibtelecom Mail Store space which has a quota limit (the default level is 100MB, although you can increase the size for a small fee each month). If you run out of space any emails sent to you will bounce back to the sender. You can check your incoming mailbox size and quota online, via the webmail service at https://webmail.gibtelecom.net .

POP3 (Post Office Protocol Version3)

POP3 is suitable if you have no need to check your email in multiple locations. If you only ever check your Gibtelecom emails on your computer at home, for example, then POP is fine for this purpose as you can store messages locally.

If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact our Helpdesk on 192 which is open 7 days a week from 07:30 - 23:00.

Email authentication

To set up your email you will need enable email authentication on your mail client. Email authentication, along with a wide set of other tools used by email senders and receivers to establish sender reputation, is used by all major ISP’s like Hotmail, Gmail , AOL to filter out suspected spam emails.

Gibtelecom has implemented email authentication on the sending of emails on the mailbox content retrieval, which will help validate emails sent by our customers are originating from a legitimate source.

The set up depends on your mail client. Select yours from the list below.
